211 Helpline Connects Women to Life-Saving Cancer Screenings

With an early diagnosis, both breast cancer and cervical cancer patients have marked treatment successes. But what if you don’t know how or where to access the screenings? What if you can’t afford the testing? That is where the Helpline can help!

Beginning in 2017, 211 Helpline partnered with the South Dakota Department of Health to develop the Health Navigation program, which connects women with local healthcare providers for breast and cervical cancer screenings. For women who meet the income guidelines, the Helpline Health Navigator assists women with enrollment in the All Women Count! Program, which provides financial assistance in covering the cost of the screenings.

Since March, more than 300 women have been connected to screening education and appointment assistance. Transportation assistance in Beadle, Lawrence and Pennington Counties is available through a grant from the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
