Summer Food for Kids

This list includes both sites providing SFSP (Summer Food Service Program(s)) and locally organized sack lunch programs which can help feed children in low-income areas when school is not in session. Throughout South Dakota, SFSP has sponsors such as schools, private non-profit organization, and government entities that participate in providing meals during school vacations.

Brandon area

Who: All kids age18 and under’
What: Healthy, free meals and friends, old and new

Belle Fourche area

Who: All kids 18 and under
What: Free breakfasts and lunches

- Breakfast: 7:45am – 8:30am, Monday – Friday

Brookings area

Summer distribution of Backpacks (easy to prepare weekend meals)
- 12:00noon – 6:00pm , Thursdays

Brown County

Feed the Kids 2019 Summer Schedule
- There is no application needed; kids can just show up. Children must be present to receive their lunch.
- Starts Monday, June 3rd – week before school (except July 4 and 5).

  - 16th Street Park – 11:30-11:45am
  - Frontier Park – 11:50am
  - Aldrich Park – 12:00pm
  - Manor Park – 12:15pm

Custer area

Summer Sack Lunches
- Area teams work to provide free, nutritious, sack lunches to school children. These lunches are places in a refrigerator at the Custer YMCA, 644 Crook Street.
- Children do not need to sign in.
- They are allowed in to receive one lunch per child – YMCA staff supervise.
- This program is made available through The Storehouse.

Huron area

Summer Nutrition Program available at the Huron Middle School for all children ages 1 – 18 with no paperwork or application necessary.

Free lunches will be served from 11:00am – 1:00pm, Monday – Friday
- This program will run from May 28, 2019 – August 2, 2019 and will be closed July 4th and 5th in observance of Independence Day.

- All Children 18 and under are welcome. Adult lunches may be served after all children are served for a small charge.
