New Crisis Line Materials Available

Bright and colorful HOPE cards and posters are now available through the Helpline Center. “The HOPE cards were specifically designed and created with bright colors to draw people to them,” says Janet Kittams, Helpline Center President. Studies have shown that people who suffer from depression are drawn to hopeful images. It was this premise that helped to guide the design of the new HOPE cards. “Those suffering from depression, or their friends and loved ones, are encouraged to pick up a HOPE card. The cards include information on how to get in touch with the Helpline Crisis Hotline should the need arise,” continues Kittams.

In addition to the HOPE Cards, posters have been developed to help middle-aged men living in rural areas know there is also help readily available for them, as well. “Men, specifically those in their middle years living in rural areas, are at an increased risk for developing depression and having thoughts of self-harm,” states Kittams. “By developing a poster that appeals directly to this demographic, it is our hope that we can create an awareness and the knowledge that we have tools and resources to help them cope as well.”

All of the materials are available at the Helpline Center. Anyone interested is encouraged to dial 211 to find out more.
