Helpline Center honors International Survivors of Suicide Day

As one survivor put it, “It is so important to be able to talk to other survivors who have experienced that same trauma that we have. Thank you again for bringing us together.”

On Saturday, November 17th, survivors gathered at Active Generations to create ornaments in memory of their loved one lost to suicide and also to be in the company of other survivors. It was a healing afternoon, filled with creativity and community. Cookies and bars were provided by the members of the Survivors of Suicide Services Advisory Committee and Helpline provided the materials to make over 5 dozen memorial ornaments.

At about 2:30, the large group of about 60 survivors transitioned to the Sertoma Butterfly House. Admission for all survivors was also sponsored by Helpline. After allowing time to move about in the butterfly habitat, each family was represented by a family member who released a butterfly as their loved one’s name was read.

We were glad for the successful turnout for the event and gratified to help provide survivors with a healing, beautiful experience.
